The Fisk Jubilee Singers Archives

The Fisk Jubilee Singers Archives consist of three separate collections; the Original Jubilee Singers Collection 1858-1924; the European Tour Collection, 1873-1878; and the latest collection 1928-1982. The archives consist of thirty-three archival boxes containing an abundance of correspondences from members including George White (organizer), Ella Sheppard Moore, Mabel Imes, America Robinson, Maggie Porter, and Julia Jackson. The collections also includes newspaper clippings, photographs, publicity materials, programs, and an abundance of original writings. These materials are held in Fisk University's John Hope and Aurelia E. Franklin Library Special Collections.

Spence Family Collection. Series 2: Correspondence

This collection displays materials related to the Fisk English Professor turned missionary, Henrietta Matson, during her time in India from November, 1887 to January, 1892. These documents related to Henrietta Matson are in Box 21 (Folder 21-21 to Folder 21-26), Box 26 (Folder 26-25 to Folder 26-27), Box 34 (Folder 34-27 to Folder 34-32), and Box 45 (Folder 45-20 to Folder 45-25). The documents included in this online collection pertain to her time at Fisk motivating her to go to India, her time with the Jubilee Singers in India, and her observations of the Singers in South Asia. These materials are held in Fisk University's John Hope and Aurelia E. Franklin Library Special Collections.

This collection displays visual materials, such as photographs and prints, from the Spence Family Collection related to the Fisk Jubilee Singers and their travels in Asia. While most of these items are undated, most were probably produced ca. 1887-1895. Adam Knight Spence and John Wesley Work Collection - Auburn Avenue Research Library

This collection displays materials related to the Fisk Jubilee Singers' tour of South Asia and letters associated with the Fisk English Professor turned missionary, Henrietta Matson, during her time in India from November, 1887 to January, 1892. These documents related to Henrietta Matson and the Fisk Jubilee Singers’ travels in Asia are contained in Series 2 (Box2, Folder 8), Series 4 (Box 3, Folders 3-10; Box 4, Folder 9), and Series 5 (Box 4, Folder 10). Matson's documents included in this collection pertain to her time with and observing the Fisk Jubilee Singers in South Asia.
