Title

"A Parsee School. Bombay."

Subject

India--Parsee School--Spence Family--Asia--Fisk Jubilee Singers

Description

A commercially-produced image depicting a group of sixteen Parsi women and girls at a school in India. Fifteen of the women and girls sit on couches in a semi-circles surrounding a desk in the center of the image. Several leather-bound books cover the surface of the desk. In front of the desk sits a woman facing left and pointing to a globe atop an ornate pedestal. This woman may be the teacher of the classes. In the upper center of the back wall hangs a large map of India and Burma. The reverse of this image has writing in ink, reading "A Parsee School. Bombay." This image was one of many commercially-produced images of various places and peoples in Asia likely gifted to the Spence family by the Fisk Jubilee Singers upon their return to the United States in 1890.
